We explored the effects of EpiCor, a dried Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentate, on cold and flu symptoms among healthy individuals who had recently received a flu shot. Over 12 weeks, we conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 116 participants who took either EpiCor or a placebo.
Those supplemented with EpiCor reported significantly fewer symptoms and a shorter duration of illness compared to those on the placebo. This suggests that EpiCor may offer a beneficial approach to reducing cold and flu-like symptoms.

Yeast postbiotic reduces cold symptoms
Efficacy of a yeast postbiotic on cold/flu symptoms in healthy children: A randomized-controlled trial.
We examined the effectiveness of EpiCor, a yeast-derived postbiotic, on cold and flu symptoms in children. In a randomized controlled trial involving 256 kids aged 4-12, we compared those receiving EpiCor with a placebo for 84 days during flu season.
Results showed that children taking EpiCor experienced less severe cold and flu symptoms and used fewer medications than those on the placebo. This suggests that EpiCor can enhance immune function safely, providing a helpful option for managing colds in children.

I'm very satisfied with this product! I noticed a clear difference in my symptoms when I took it. During a cold with a sore throat or runny nose, I took 4 tablets daily: 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening on an empty stomach, ideally combined with lactic acid bacteria. I regret any days I forgot to take them. The tablets are easy to swallow, odourless, and well-priced. I'll definitely buy more after I finish my current bottles. I highly recommend this to everyone!

My mother's keeper :) My mum is asthmatic and has always been susceptible to various winter health issues and pollen allergies. I purchased the NOW foods beta glucans (100mg) for her 2.5 years ago, and she has taken one capsule daily since. I can't recall the last time she had a cold or flu. I've now opted for the 250mg dosage for extra safety due to the current situation. She remains perfectly healthy despite going out. Remarkably, her blood sugar and cholesterol levels have normalised after years of being elevated, which is said to be an effect of beta glucans. It's a double win for us!

Baker's yeast supports immune function
Baker's yeast beta glucan supplementation increases salivary IgA and decreases cold/flu symptomatic days after intense exercise.
We aimed to explore the effects of baker's yeast β-glucan (BG) on the immune system of those engaging in intense exercise. In two experiments involving over 240 men and women, we found that BG reduced cold and flu symptom days by 37% after a marathon compared to a placebo. Additionally, BG boosted salivary IgA levels, which is crucial for immune defense, by 32% after strenuous cycling. This suggests that BG could be beneficial for those at risk of upper respiratory infections following intense physical activity.

Yeast beta-glucan reduces cold episodes
Yeast (1,3)-(1,6)-beta-glucan helps to maintain the body's defence against pathogens: a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, multicentric study in healthy subjects.
We conducted a clinical trial to see if brewers' yeast, specifically its beta-glucan component, could reduce common cold episodes in healthy individuals.
In this study, 162 volunteers took either yeast beta-glucan or a placebo for 16 weeks. Each participant tracked their cold episodes and symptoms.
We found that those taking the yeast supplement had 25% fewer colds and reported better overall symptom management compared to the placebo group. Notably, participants experienced fewer sleep disturbances related to their colds.

This Recovery Accelerator is essential for me! Whenever I notice cold symptoms, I start taking Beta-Glucans, which have often prevented me from becoming seriously ill. Even when I do fall ill, taking this product helps me recover quickly and easily. Previously, I frequently caught colds, but this product has significantly improved my quality of life and bolstered my immunity.
The common cold is a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, primarily affecting the nose and throat. It's caused by a variety of viruses, with rhinoviruses being the most prevalent. Symptoms generally include a runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, sneezing, mild headache, and sometimes a low-grade fever. While the common cold is often mild and resolves on its own within a week or two, it can still be bothersome and impact daily activities.
Transmission occurs through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or by touching surfaces contaminated with the virus. Preventative measures include frequent handwashing, using hand sanitizer, and avoiding close contact with infected individuals. Since there is currently no cure for the common cold, treatment focuses on symptom relief through over-the-counter medications, adequate rest, and hydration. While colds may be uncomfortable, they are generally not serious; however, seeking medical attention may be necessary if symptoms worsen or persist for an extended period.
Beta-glucan is a type of soluble fiber that is primarily found in the cell walls of oats, barley, and certain fungi, such as mushrooms. It is renowned for its potential health benefits, particularly in supporting the immune system and improving cholesterol levels. When consumed, beta-glucan can form a gel-like substance in the gut, which slows down digestion and can lead to a feeling of fullness. This attribute makes it a popular addition to many diets aimed at weight management and heart health.
In addition to its role in promoting cardiovascular health, beta-glucan has been studied for its potential immune-boosting properties. Research indicates that it may enhance the body’s immune response by activating certain immune cells, such as macrophages and natural killer cells. It is often marketed as a supplement or included in health foods, making it an appealing choice for those seeking natural ways to support their overall health. Whether incorporated through whole foods or supplements, beta-glucan can be a beneficial addition to a balanced diet.
Beta-glucan, a soluble fiber found in the cell walls of certain grains, mushrooms, and yeast, has garnered attention for its potential immune-boosting properties. Some studies suggest that beta-glucan may help enhance the immune response, potentially offering some protection against infections like the common cold. It works by activating various immune cells, such as macrophages and natural killer cells, which could aid the body in effectively combating pathogens. However, while there is promising evidence, the scientific community has not conclusively established that beta-glucan can prevent or significantly reduce the severity of the common cold.
It's important to note that while incorporating beta-glucan-rich foods or supplements into your diet may contribute to overall immune health, it should not be viewed as a standalone remedy for the common cold. For anyone considering beta-glucan supplementation, it's a wise idea to consult a healthcare professional to understand the appropriate dosage and to ensure it fits within your individual health routines. Lastly, maintaining a balanced diet, practicing good hygiene, and ensuring adequate rest are fundamental components of cold prevention that should not be overlooked.
